At the heart of diversity is profound similarity: defining the uniqueness of each species is the same four bases, arranged in forms as ancient as life itself.  At the heart of similarity is profound diversity: each member of a species is unique, defying the sameness of its genetic code and how it is classified. Perversely, neither diversity nor similarity appear to give full account of uniqueness.
